If you are not wet behind the ears in mobile, you will remember Siemens mobiles. Back in the day, Siemens made some of the coolest phones and was one of the largest brands before disappearing. In 2008, Gigaset, a German company founded when Arques Industries, a private equity firm acquired 80.2% equity interest in Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices. So, essentially, Gigaset is the new Siemens mobile, though the company produces more than just phones. And now, Gigaset has something for us.
There are rumours of a Gigaset smartphone being on the way. According to leaked benchmark results, specs should include Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, a 1080p Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage (no word on expandable memory), a 16 megapixel rear camera, and an 8 megapixel selfie camera. Sounds good.
Will we see elements of the old Siemens’ design language? I hope so. Like I said earlier, Siemens had some really well designed devices.
