About a week ago, news spread all over the internet that Nokia will be back with a bang next year making smart phones. They released the Nokia N1 tablet by just covering the design , and outsourcing the sales/distribution to a different company(Foxconn) which I think was a smart move. The deal with Microsoft states that Nokia can’t sell any devices or license any patents until Q3 2016, so the rumors held that Nokia will make start making phones once the deal (with Microsoft) expires with R&D set to be relocated to China.
In a brief statement Nokia squashed those rumors. It goes thus,
“Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive.
Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets”.
Maybe they want to focus on other technologies, after-all they just acquired Alcatel-Lucent. On the other hand, I still don’t count out the possibility of Nokia releasing a handset come 2016.
